Date: 07 October 2010
Nine engines will be necessary to control the EDM during the final braking phase. The CHT400 engine was selected because of its proven record in the Ariane 5 and Atmospheric Re-entry Demonstrator missions. During the test, the engine was subjected to a simulation of the final deceleration of the EDM. It showed high performance, repeatability and stability in all conditions, demonstrating its suitability. This photo shows the engine installed in its firing test configuration.
