The aerodynamic forces on the EDM at hypersonic speeds (Mach 10) were measured during testing at the French Aerospace Lab (ONERA) S4MA wind tunnel in Modane, France, in January 2009.

The picture on the right, taken during the test, shows the bow-shaped shock wave in front of the EDM model, which is 180 mm diameter. It compares well with the software simulation on the left. The capsule is tilted at a 20-degree angle.
