A free-flight field test at supersonic speeds of a model of the ExoMars 2016 Schiaparelli Entry, descent and landing Demonstrator Module.

The aerodynamic characteristics in the low supersonic regime (Mach number between 1 and 3) were studied during a test campaign starting in 2008 during which the EDM was subject to dynamic instabilities. Each test consisted of the launch of a 92-mm diameter model of the EDM with a 105-mm diameter powder gun, at velocities approaching Mach 3. The models carried instruments for measurements during flight, and were recovered at the end of the test range which measured 150 m.
