On 19 October 2016, the ExoMars 2016 entry, descent, and landing demonstrator module, known as Schiaparelli, will land on Mars in a region known as Meridiani Planum.

The landing sites of the seven rovers and landers that have reached the surface of Mars and successfully operated there are indicated on this map.

The background image is a shaded relief map of Mars, based on data from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) instrument, on NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft. (The original image MOLA map is available here.)
