Resolution of TGO's FREND instrument

Date: 10 April 2019
Satellite: Trace Gas Orbiter
Copyright: ESA; ATG/medialab; NASA; JPL-Caltech

This graphic shows the improved resolution of the FREND neutron detector on board the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter with respect to its predecessor, the HEND detector on NASA's 2001 Mars Odyssey mission. As opposed to HEND's omnidirectional detector, FREND has a field of view of 14 degrees, corresponding to a spatial resolution of 60–200 km at an altitude of 400 km, depending on statistics.
